  THE TALE OF A WIDOW / A Real Story of Struggling life of a Bengali Widow,Askirun Nessa - Part -1.  


Askirun Nessa,
a village girl of Bangladesh was born in a peasant family in the Pakistan period. She doesn't know her actual birth date or year because that was a valueless task to keep a record of it. Education was mere a sign of luxury and impiety. In that period,it's said that female education is an offense. So,women couldn't take any education without elementary religious education in local mosque. 

As an ordinary girl,she also learned how to recite the Holy Quran and got access to fundamental religious learning. She captured all thoughts of rural folk women those were a mean to prove girls smart at that time,most of them were full of prejudices. She asked her father about female schooling,the reply was " It's a sin."

In her first way of life,she was the member of a glad and satisfied peasant family. They were five sisters with their parents.  All on a sudden,she lost her father. Her sisters got married and she was also married by the passage of time with a strolling man. Her cousins captured their father's property.

Askirun's husband was premarried but divorced his wife. He was a small farmer,painter and stroller. He was careless about family and lead a life of saint. He ceased all human intentions and just wanted to lead in the afterlife. Property,penny,honor didn't have any mean to him.

In her way of life,she bore six daughters and two sons. Daughters were a burden to the family. The first one Salma was a blackie. As black girls were useless and were tough to get married for the social prejudice,she also suffered them much. Askirun used to work to others house as a maid to support her family. Her husband had had a visit to London but without any benefit he returned home.

All on a sudden,Askirun's husband was captured by brain stroke and by the way,he was paralyzed losing one sight of body. Space collapsed on her head. She undertook the control of her family. His brother's descendants were supporting from London as much as possible but it's not enough and was irregular.

Askirun initiated a micro industry of bamboo crafts and mattings. The laborers of her industry were her six daughters and the atelier was her own tin shed house. Local folks knew about her works and were regular customers to her products.

After several months of paralyzing,her husband passed away. Another storm absorbed her losing care of the last remaining supporters. Before that she arranged her first daughters wedding but the bridegroom was only in huge greed of being wealthy by dowry.

In the meantime,Askirun's third daughter Ratna Khatun was taken to London in her teenage. But it's also a misbehave of destiny. She backed home after six months being totally mad. Another unit of misfortune started. Rotna used to rebuke and threaten all whole the day. Most often she broke things in her madness.

Anjuma's wedlock was approached then,the second daughter of Askirun. Her main luck was her beauty. She was the main laborer of Askirun's bamboo craft. She lost her chief assistance.
